THE Ngwe Saung Zone Hotelier Association organised a htamane (glutinous rice) cooking contest on February 7 with the aim of attracting more visitors to the beach.

“The htamane competition was fairly successful, considering that it was the first time we had organised such an event,” said Dr Aung Htay Lin, the joint secretary of the association.

“The one-hour competition was contested by five teams, each with 10 members – one supervisor and nine people to cook the htamane,” he said.

The competition started at 5pm and was judged by members of the association and local authorities.

First prize was won by the team from Palm Beach Resort, with the Silver View Resort team taking second and Yuzana Resort and Emerald Resort tying for third.
