“What we’ve been trying to do is use food as a way of helping people to try and rebuild their homes and the assets that can help to strengthen agricultural production,”

“It was unusual to see so many foreign visitors, especially from Germany, when tourist arrivals are down at popular beaches such as Ngapali, Ngwe Saung and Chaungtha. But most of them come via Ranong by border entry visa,”
“With the current outbreak of swine flu, if necessary ASEAN countries will cooperate to provide accurate information and share our experiences and knowledge about the best methods to deal with the problem,"

“We asked the widows about their family structure, income and their business, so that we can give them enough money to invest,”
“As part of the ASEAN common competency standard for tourism professionals, we will recognise the certificate of competence which is issued by each member state in the region,”
“Over the longer term, developing Asia is starting the process of rebalancing growth from excessive dependence on external demand to greater resilience on both consumption and investment,”

“The challenge facing the survivors of Cyclone Nargis now is that aid flow and attention have waned in the recovery phase. Unless the most crucial needs in reviving livelihoods are addressed, communities will need to continue relying on humanitarian support, and sustaining the gains of the past year will be difficult.”

“We use solar energy to provide power for watering the plants and lighting the paths in the garden. We have also set up a wind turbine to generate power for lighting,”

“By establishing the breeding farm, we expect to be able to produce the required number of strong, healthy water buffalo for this area. We need to rebuild to the numbers we had before Nargis,”

Under moves to strengthen healthcare in the area, the Htoo Foundation plans to sponsor the cost of employing two doctors and three nurses from Yangon at the 16-bed Mular Shidee Hospital.

“Container prices are dependent on market supply and demand, which is not great right now. That said, the prevailing trade policy plays an important role for the development and activity of the shipping industry,”
“In particular, tour operators from western countries are not selling group tours to Myanmar at the moment. This may be partly due to the global economic crisis, which is prompting many people to rethink their holiday plans,”

“Property is a secondary category that relies on trade in other commodities. This time last year business was good even at the high end of the market, but this year so far there are more rentals. Properties costing K70 million and above are showing poor demand,”

“My whole family loves plants, which was an important consideration when I was looking for somewhere to build this house. This location is very peaceful and seems like it sits inside a small forest,”

THIS week Timeout speaks with Tatee, a clothes designer popular for his traditional designs. Tatee has worked in design for a decade now and also trains aspiring young designers. Recently he has released designer clothes patterns so that people can create dresses at home.

“If there were only trees I wouldn’t be so attracted to the scene but when I saw the trees together with the colonial buildings I found them attractive and wanted to create the art works. You won’t see the current scenes in the works though because I’ve changed things slightly by mixing what you can see now with scenes from the past,”

Samukawa showed a real aptitude for Myanmar boxing and earned the respect of the crowd by wearing some withering blows from Lone Chaw, one of Myanmar’s top fighters. In the third round Lone Chaw looked to have the advantage over Samukawa, tying him up in the corner several times.
