A HANDFUL of Myanmar’s business community will travel to two different economic meets that begin on the same day, with a common goal – increasing money making opportunities, a Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) spokesman said last week.
One event is the ASEAN-Korea CEO Summit that will be held at Jeju Island, South Korea, while the other meet is the Turkey-World Trade Bridge 2009, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey. Both will be begin on May 31.
“The Turkey-World Trade Bridge 2009 is a big event that will be represented at the ministerial level by more than 100 nations,” the UMFCCI official said.
UMFCCI vice president, U Zaw Min Win, also stated the importance of the South Korean event.
The Turkish meeting continues until the end of June 3and includes three days of business matching those local who attend; all with the aim of forging new connections.
The Korean event only runs until June 1 and will focus on Asia’s role in the global economic outlook and its prospects for quick recovery.
U Zaw Min Win said he expects the South Korean event, which is much closer, to be more popular with Myanmar’s business community.
“I think more people will be willing to travel to South Korea because it’s closer and offers more obvious business opportunities,” he said.
