U Tin Maung Win, chairman of the association’s Information Management Board, said the exhibition was aimed at allowing the public to see a wide range of Myanmar agricultural products in one place, helping businessmen make contacts and expand their markets, and raising the standard of local agricultural products.

“We take action as soon as we find out about cases where rules have been broken. We encourage the contractors to improve their behaviour, but it’s difficult for the board to keep track of what’s happening everywhere, all the time. That’s why we accept comments from well-meaning visitors,”

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been charged with violating Section 22 of Myanmar’s Penal Code, for “protecting a criminal and disturbing the stability of the state” in connection with an uninvited visit to her house by American John William Yettaw, 53, on May 4 and 5.

The competing teams receive 40 percent each of the total entrance fees and the remaining 20pc goes to the Myanmar Football Federation to cover the costs of holding the match.

“I think the players’ style has changed and they are now stronger when attacking. If they try hard to improve and the clubs’ backers continue to support the competition, I think the Myanmar National League will be a success.”

There were positives for Southern Myanmar, particularly in the first half when midfielder Banyar Oo linked up well with striker B James Htway but the lack of finishing prowess will worry coach U Kyaw Tint.
