THE opening round of matches in the Myanmar National League Cup raked in more than K33 million in entrance fees, according to the Myanmar Football Federation.
Entrance fees for the Yangon United and Zayar Shwe Myay clash at Thuwanna Stadium on May 16 – the first match of the tournament – topped K18 million, setting the record for a domestic football match in Myanmar.
The second match between Yadanarbon FC and Southern Myanmar FC brought in K5.1 million, while the Delta United FC v Magway FC and Kanbawza FC v Okkthar United FC matches brought in K5.7 million and K4.6 million respectively.
The competing teams receive 40 percent each of the total entrance fees and the remaining 20pc goes to the Myanmar Football Federation to cover the costs of holding the match.
There is also significant prize money on offer for the MNL clubs in this cup completion, which ends with the final on July 5. The champion will be awarded K50 million, the runner up K30 million and the team which stands in third place K20 million.
The first prize will be paid by IBTC, while the second and third prizes will be given by the Myanmar Football Federation. – Han Oo Khin, translated by Myo Lwin.
