Japanese musicians to perform as part of Mekong-Japan Exchange Year

To commemorate Japan-Mekong Exchange Year the Japanese embassy and the Japan Foundation will host a special concert of piano and flute music by flutist Mr Hiroshi Matsushima and pianist Mrs Yoshimi Matsushima. The concert will be held from 3pm to 5.30pm on August 1 at The Strand hotel in Yangon and on August 2 from 3pm to 5pm at Amarapura Ball Room, Sedona hotel in Mandalay.

According to the press release, Mr Hiroshi Matsushima began playing the flute in 1988 and received a B.A. degree from Musashino Music Academy in Tokyo in 1995. He joined the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) in 1994 playing in concert tours throughout Asia and the USA until 1995. In 2005, he became the Principal flute player with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. He also writes articles on flute playing in Music Journal Magazine.

Mrs Yoshimi Matsushima began her lessons at the age of five at YAMAHA music school and took advanced piano instruction with Takako and Shoko Hiraiwa. She is also interested in Piano duets and has been giving concerts and was invited to perform at the Palace of Schonbrunn in Vienna.

Tickets will be available at the Information and Culture Section of the Embassy of Japan, call 549644~48 on weekdays for complimentary tickets. Refreshment will be served after the concert.

TV documentary series to screen

Well-liked TV documentary series “Lwin Moe Travelling in Myeik Archipelago” will be aired from July 10 and every subsequent Friday on state-run Myanmar Radio and Television channel after the evening news. This second series about travelling to Myeik Archipelago with actor Lwin Moe, who also has a passion for photography and making documentaries, will have 15 episodes. The series captures the beauty of the Myeik Archipelago, the daily activities of the ethnic groups, historical buildings and interesting places Tanintharyi division.

“Being a native of Myeik, many places around it are familiar to me, the beauty of the archipelago and occupations of the locals inspired me to make a documentary. I feel very proud to present my native places,” said Lwin Moe.

‘Artificial Art Exhibition’ on-going

A group art exhibition entitled “Artificial Art Exhibition” by 19 contemporary artists is being on-going at the Park Royal hotel until July 19. The three-month exhibition is dedicated to contemporary art.

Three group exhibitions will be on display at the Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Organisation (central), 188/192, Bogyoke Aung San market (east wing). The first show is by artist U Sai Tun Tun and will run from June 5 to June 10. The second show is by artist U Win Kyi and will be held from June 12 to June 17. The third is by artist U Myo Sat will be held from June 19 to June 24.

The exhibited painting are realist or impressionist in style and feature oil, watercolour and acrylic on canvas. The paintings generally depict pastoral scenes of Myanmar and portraits.

International music festival to play at French emabssy and Inya Lake hotel

An international music festival will be held on June 13 at the French embassy and on June 14 at Inya Lake hotel in Yangon. Musicians from Myanmar, France, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia as well from the British Council and American Centre in Yangon will take part in the two-day event.

Music festival and DJ party

Alliance Française has organised a music festival, which will include both local and foreign musicians on June 13. The festival will be in two parts with the first performance by Zaw Win Htut, Alex and Eint Chit being free entry at Alliance Française from 2pm to 8:30 pm. The second half will feature a DJ Party with French DJ Dyno, who will play a set at Inya Lake hotel from 9pm in collaboration with local DJs including DJ Jay and DJ Nway Oo. Tickets are available at Alliance Française at K2000 per person.
