“It is very good to be treated in the new hospital because it looks so secure and clean. Before the hospital opened, we only had a small clinic but I rarely went there. Usually I asked the doctor to come to my home when he had time,”

In the past, a good hunter could get three to four wild pigs a year, each worth about K40,000 in meat. The smaller and more common barking deer might be worth.

“We need a consumer protection act, which the authorities are now preparing to draw up. And we need digital certificates to guarantee authenticity. The Ministry of Post and Telecommunication is now working on internationally recognised digital certificates in preparation for future e-commerce,”

“Such unnecessary issue takes place in none of the borders Myanmar shares with other neighbouring countries. The root cause of issues on [internally displaced persons] and refugees in the Thai-Myanmar border is that [Thailand] accept and let the problems keep on taking place.”
“The new curriculum is aimed at emphasising creativity and applied knowledge, and includes new facts and information that put the education system in closer conformity with international standards,”

Although we have a township hospital, there are no eye doctors. If we suffer from eye problems, we have to go to Yangon. Otherwise we have to live with poor vision.”

He said the course, which costs K75,000, will be taught by experienced doctors and nurses. Classes will meet weekdays from 7am to 11am for practical training, and 1pm to 4pm for theoretical instruction.

“I check the weather forecast in the paper and look out for news from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology on television at night to know if there’s any low pressure area that can develop into a storm,”

“Our home for the aged is not well known like Hninzigone in Yangon because of its out-of-the way location and because local residents, who are mostly farmers, can’t make donations to improve the facilities,”

Myanmar would be included under phase three of the plan – along with Vietnamese, Thai, Farsi, Bengali, Khmer and Lao – which would be implemented after 15 years.

The export of beans and pulses now stands at US$806 million in terms of value, General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, secretary (1) of the State Peace and Development Council, told traders last month in Nay Pyi Taw. The 2008-2009 figure was $747 million.
“If the farmers really put their minds to these programs and follow our recommendations I believe there is every chance that the monsoon season paddy crops will be good,”

“Most of the cases are simply handled through negotiations involving everyone who own apartments at the building. There is no separate law that details who is financially responsible for those kinds of damages,”

The inside of the house is generally subdued, with the four bedrooms furnished with simple furniture, although all have ensuite bathrooms. There is, of course, plenty of parquet flooring and ornate lighting but that comes with the territory.

“Sailing is considered to be adventurous, although when I was sailing on Inya Lake, which is a small area of still water that does not have strong currents or large waves, I wasn’t very stimulated,”

Being refurbished at a cost of 140 million euros (US$197 million), the power-plant built in 1929 to keep the Paris subway running, is a rambling 62,000 square-metre complex complete with weeds, graffiti and splintered glass roofing.

“Because we are quite weak up forward, we couldn’t break down [Yangon United’s] defence today. We are already planning to hire some local football stars [to fill this role],”

“We will learn a lot about the youth athletes, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and choose the most talented to train with the national team and then send them to upcoming international youth weightlifting competitions,”

“We should not have lost to Indonesia. That was our undoing. We have failed to make the semi-finals for the third time in three years. But there’s always next year,”

After a poor first half, Yadanarbon defender Kambou Ollo’s work down the left flank in the second period created many of Yadanarbon’s chances and he frequently combined with striker Yan Paing to good effect.
