STATE-OWNED Myanma Posts and Telecommunications said last week that it will introduce 150,000 Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) rated at 800MHz, fixed phones in Yangon and Mandalay soon.
The spokesperson said the enterprise is now calculating what infrastructure will be required for the plan and will start releasing the phones within six months.
Yangon will receive 100,000, while Mandalay will get 50,000; each will cost K1.5 million to install.
The phones, which will have eight-digit numbers, will use the CDMA 800 MHz network and will allow users to make international calls, send short messages (SMS) and will also have caller identification and call forwarding features, he added.
“As these phones are fixed phones, they can’t operate as mobile telephones and won’t work if they are moved to another township. Call charges will be the same as with landlines,” he said.
Anyone interested in buying one of the new phones should apply directly to the minister’s office of Ministry of Communication, Posts and Telegraphs in Nay Pyi Taw.
