| A bidder prepares to take part in a car auction at the Sakura Auto Auction Centre last week. |
A NEW computerised auction centre will allow the sale of cars at the best agreed prices, says U Htay Aung, chairman of Sakura Technical Services.
He was speaking as the auction centre opened on June 14 at Cherry Garden Housing in South Okkalapa, Yangon.
“The main aim is to sell directly for a fair price agreed between buyer and seller,” said U Htay Aung.
Auctions will take place at weekends, initially every other week, he said. The centre is wholly owned by Myanmar businesses, despite the use of a Japanese name.
While the seller will be charged a brokerage fee, U Htay Aung said it would be less than that charged by a professional dealer. Buyers need to know how to operate the computer-based auction system, though the centre will be able to assist them. Sellers also pay a K10,000 registration fee that covers three auctions, plus a commission in case of a sale. A buyer must pay K1 million in advance, followed by the balance of the sale, payable within a week.
U Htay Aung said the auto auction centre would repay the advance payment to buyers if they did not make a purchase after three auctions.
