QUALITY location, ample space, parking and security are all guaranteed with this apartment on the seventh floor of the Thatkatho Yeik Mon Condo in Bahan township.
But what’s missing from that list is perhaps the most salient point – 24-hour power. And for K400,000 a month that’s perhaps a serious omission. Granted, not many places in Yangon can offer that Everest, that Holy Grail of amenities, unless they’re in Golden Valley of course.
However, back in Bahan township and just off University Avenue you’ll find this 1500-square-foot, two-bedroom apartment that is within a quick drive of the downtown area and a short walk from Yankin Centre.
The main entrance to the apartment is guarded by an iron sliding grill, followed by a wooden door and finally a glass door; even flies will struggle to get in without an invite.
A square living room is the biggest space in the condo and currently features a grey sofa, with yellow walls. The décor is new-age Myanmar: Think ornate ceiling, inset downlights and parquet flooring. On the upside there’s a smallish air-conditioner, which should prove handy when there is electricity.
Alongside is a small but cosy dining room.
There are no surprises in the medium-size kitchen that comes with abundant storage and working space but the range hood above the gas stove is an always-useful addition.
From the master bedroom, with ensuite bathroom, you can catch a small glimpse of Inya Lake, which is surely a bonus. And there’s an air-conditioner as well.
Directly next door is the single bedroom, which has no ensuite bathroom but with a second bathroom only metres away that’s unlikely to be a concern.
It’s a nice apartment but whether it’s worth K400,000, with variable electricity, is an important question.
