Tourism workshop planned

By Zaw Win Than

TOURISM professionals are being invited to participate in a two-day workshop on responsible tourism management, on June 25 and 26.

The event is being organised by the Myanmar Marketing Committee (MMC), Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) and Myanmar Hoteliers Association (MHA), at the Park Royal Hotel in Yangon.

Ma Thwe Thwe Tun, an administrative manager at MMC, said the workshop would feature group discussions and presentations in English on subjects including the impact of tourism, sustainable tourism, responsible tourism, community-based tourism and ecotourism. There would also be a presentation on best practice in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in tourism in Asia by Ms Nicole Haeusler, a tourism consultant from Germany.

Participants would also discuss the next steps for responsible tourism activities in Myanmar.

The workshop package will cost US$30 per person, including four coffee breaks and two lunches.

Ma Thwe Thwe Tun said the workshop was limited to 25 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested should register no later than June 22 at the MMC office on the third floor of Traders Hotel or UMTA office on the six floor of Yuzana Condo Tower in Shwegondine Township, she said.
