Myanmar-art.com gallery opening

A new gallery called “Myanmar-art.com” at Yangon’s Inya Lake Hotel (No 37, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road) is to open on June 28. The gallery, which will be open from 9am to 5pm daily, will showcase the top works from young contemporary artists. To celebrate the event the gallery is holding an exhibition titled “Aesthetic Rain”, which will feature works by seven established contemporary artists. The exhibition will run until July 5.

Terminator Salvation opens

The latest installment of the popular Terminator franchise has hit Yangon, with Nay Pyi Daw cinema screening Terminator Salvation from June 19. The film is directed by McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol), who also directed Charlie’s Angels, and is written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris. Christian Bale plays resistance leader John Connor and the film also stars Sam Worthington and Moon Bloodgood.

Photo contest

Starting from July, Myanmar photographers are invited to enter their work into monthly contests held by the Myanmar Photographic Society in conjunction with MRTV-4. Entrants can submit up to four photographs for each competition and photos can be taken with any kind of camera. The theme for the July competition is portraits and entries must be submitted by July 9. The theme for August will be landscape, while September will focus on pets. The three top photographers selected will each receive K110,000. Fashion Music Festival 2

The second television show in the Fashion Music Festival series will soon be aired on MRTV-4, the station says. The new series will span many music genres, including hip hop, rock and pop, and feature performances from Si Thu Lwin, L Lun War and Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein and the Uranium dance group.

U Kyaw Lay memorial art exhibition

Friends and students of the late artist U Kyaw Lay will exhibit works in remembrance of him at an exhibition being organised by the Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Organisation from July 3-8. A variety of artworks will be available for purchase. The exhibition will be held at the organisation’s central office — No 188/192, Bogyoke Aung San Market (east wing) — and AZADA art gallery (34th Street, upper block).

Stage show at Kandawgyi

Singers Sai Sai Kham Hliam, J Me, Ye Lay, Jaut Jat, Rock Star, Thazin, Sandy Myint Lwin, Jenny, Cyclone, G-Tone, Hanzar Moe Win and Yone Lay will perform a stage show on August 2 at Mhyaw Sin Island in Kandawgyi Gardens. There will also be DJ performances at the show, which starts at 3pm. Tickets are K4500 each and are available at Conqueror (La Pyae Wunn plaza), Nobody and Uncle Sam (FMI, Dagon Center, Yankin Centre and BAK Centre).

Actors, musicians sing along

A live concert VCD produced by actor Khant Si and sponsored by Mandalay-based Yadanarbon Football Club is due for release in July 2009. The VCD, entitled Myet Sih Meih Pii Yone (Blind Belief), features the talents of R Zar Ni, L Lun Wa, Min Maw Kun, Hae Lay, Izzney, Sandy Myint Lwin and Chan Chan among others. The musical accompaniment is provided by Lazy Club Band.
