Vacuum donations

A YANGON Buddhist association that organises volunteer labour services for Shwedagon Pagoda has donated two electric vacuum cleaners valued at more than K200,000 to Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay.

The Ponnya Thingaha association made the donation to mark the three-year anniversary of its founding, said association member Ko Soe.

“We have also donated five vacuum cleaners to Shwedagon and two to Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda in Mon State. We plan to make similar donations to other pagodas,” he said.

“We collected funds from our members to donate the cleaners. We want pilgrims to be in a tidy environment when they visit the pagodas.”

Ponnya Thingaha was founded in 2006 at Shwedagon Pagoda. Since then, it has grown from 15 to more than 50 members. – Cherry Thein

Palmistry courses

DR San Tin Aung, a well-known palmist based in Yangon, will this month start offering courses on how to live a successful life.

“I want to encourage people to be successful in their lives. Everyone has the chance to be successful but they often fail to use ideas that can help them, and instead fall into bad habits,” he said. “The courses I will offer are especially meant to cultivate good habits.”

The 10-day courses will meet 11am to 1pm and will include 20 hours of instruction, he said.

“Topics will include how to win friends, how to have success in different fields and how to live a happy life,” Dr San Tin Aung said.

He said that the course fee is K100,000 but the price is negotiable.

“The fee is negotiable for those who are particularly interested in the courses, and I can offer them for free to pensioners or to parties who represent new media and education sectors,” he said, adding that the courses will be repeated as long as people are interested. For more information on the courses, call 388-869, 501-398 or 501-322 in Yangon. – Cherry Thein
