‘Wolverine’ screening at Nay Pyi Daw

The film “Wolverine” will be screening at Nay Pyi Daw cinema from July 3. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Live Schreiber and Ryan Reynolds. The film is directed by Gavin Hood and scripted by David Benioff.

Film screening at the Japanese Embassy

The Embassy of Japan will screen “Angel’s Egg” at the Assembly Hall of the Embassy on July 16 and July 17 at 2.30pm. The film is directed by Shin Togashi and stars Hayato Ichikawa, Manami Konishi and Erika Sawajiri. Tickets will be available from July 8 to the day of the screening (between 9am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm) at the Embassy of Japan. Seats are limited.

Second Japanese Song contest part of Mekong-Japan exchange year

The Embassy of Japan is organising a Japanese song contest to be held on October 17 from 2pm to 5pm at Park Royal Hotel, Yangon as part of the Mekong-Japan exchange year. Entry is only open Myanmar nationals. Those interested are invited to submit application forms with CDs or Cassette tapes containing original songs performed by the applicant to the Information Cultural section of the Embassy of Japan at No.100, Natmauk Road. There will be two screening sessions and 20 applicants will be chosen to participate in the final contest. Submit application forms between August 10 to September 11 on weekdays between 8.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5.15pm. ASEAN-South Korea multimedia competition for university students

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has launched an ASEAN- South Korea multimedia competition for students in ASEAN universities (including graduate) students. The theme of the contest is “Cultural Diversity and Harmony” within Korea and ASEAN generally.

The contest is divided into photography or video/multimedia. Entrant can submit in more both categories. The 1st and 2nd place winners in each of the categories will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony held in Seoul in September and the works of the winners and selected individuals will be displayed at an exhibition at the ASEAN-Korea Centre. The deadline for submissions is midnight August 22. Further contest details and rules can be found at the Centre’s website: www.aseankorea.org/english.

Myanmar Beer hosts singing contest

Myanmar Beer has organised a Myanmar Super Star Search 2009 singing contest. The contest will have five preliminary rounds, a semi final and then a final held at Park Royal hotel on September 19. The final 10 participants will get a full make-over, including clothes, make-up, hair and accessories, and their images will appear on posters and billboards.

Contestants can purchase application forms for the contest until August 9 from Dagon Centre. The preliminary round will begin on August 3 with each contestant being given marks out of 100. Contestants can sing from a choice of 29 songs.

“I want all contestants to be smart like a real super star vocalist from our country so we will provide make-up and accessories,” said John Lwin, who runs Stars and Models agency.

First winner is K2 million, second is K1 million with third K500,000. Seven consolation prizes will be offered of K100,000.

Miss People magazine calls on models and designers for 2009 competition

Good news for girls looking for fame as designers as Miss People competition will be held again this year.

People Magazine is going to hold the Miss People competition for 2009 in Mandalay on October 14 and in Yangon on November 1.

The competition has a good record in making stars out of the winners.
Aye Myat Thu, winner in 2006, is now famous and Chan Chan, who won in 2007 and May Thu Aung, who won in 2008, have both enjoyed success.

This year the competition will be expanded to include a fun fair. Entrance fees from the fun fair and vending booths will be donated to orphanages.

Any girl between the age of 14 to 25 years old who is at least 5 feet and 3 inches tall and weighs less than 45 kilograms can enter the contest. There are no specific requirements for designers.

Application forms will be available in the August edition of People Magazine or at the office in La Pyae Wun Plaza.

The venues for the event have not been confirmed.
