BARBIE, Snow White and Cinderella would all be proud of this two-storey house in May Kha housing in Thingangyun township.

The design is, shall we say, a little whimsical, with a hint of fairytale evident in more than just the yellow highlights around the house and the twin-level turret at one side of the house.

It’s sugar-sweetness is confronting but there’s no need to butcher Bambi here – the design is actually quite interesting – you just need a new coat of paint and maybe a sledgehammer.

The house sits within a 5200-square-foot compound that comes with more than a sprinkling of green garden.

The main living room is a large, comfortable space with a high ceiling and a semi-circular stairway winding its way up into the tower – there’s no Rapunzel hair ladder though.

Circular in shape, the room is as fascinating as it appears underutilised at present – it’s seems to have been dedicated as the shrine room, when it could be the ultimate children’s room.

After the exterior the colours are refreshingly normal – a light cream on the walls and dark coloured floors. There are also dark beams set into the ceiling, with downlights embedded in some.

The bedrooms are, however, a quick step back into make believe and come in strong shades of red, blue, yellow and green.

Green is the colour coding for the ensuite master bedroom that also has a huge window overlooking the front garden. However, the occupants of the other bedrooms will hardly feel shortchanged – two of the remaining three have ensuites.

After the pantomime drama of the rest of the house, the dining room and kitchen are a little underwhelming and perhaps undercooked but they are ample in size and clean.

Underneath Rapunzel’s tower is a one-car garage and there’s a structure on top that almost defies description but if you were to wrap it in buffalo skins I think you could probably offer Pocohontas a room for the night.

Beyond the unusual paint schemes the house is attractive, comes with a lovely garden and very few stairs, making it ideal for an extended family.

It also comes with tube-well, government mains water and one electricity meter.
