KAMARYUT township is the setting for this large two-storey, five-bedroom house.

The 2500-square-foot compound is almost totally swallowed by the house, which is suitably grand with its imposing pillars and front balconies.

Kamaryut is also well-placed in Yangon – close to downtown and with good transport to other areas.

But the pursuit of grandeur and bedrooms would seem to have sacrificed some liveability.

Despite the large proportions no spaces was set aside for a garden or even a carport, although there is a two-storey portico.

The house is four years old and remains in excellent condition, with the cream exterior paint scheme more or less untouched. As might be expected, teak is in heavy use around the house in interior decorations, the staircase, some ceilings and the parquet on the floor.

The living room is a comfortable space that offers green garden views – of the house next door. It’s a corner room and benefits from ample natural lighting and ventilation.

A built-in wooden shelf separates the living room from the front entrance.
A single ensuite bedroom sits opposite from the lounge, while an enclosed dining room with a ceiling fan and numerous lights is not far away.

Alongside the dining room is a kitchen with an abundance of storage space, working areas, twin sinks and an exhaust hood to suck cooking odours out of the room.

Rounding out the lower level is a bathroom and servant’s room behind the kitchen.

The upstairs area includes one ensuite master bedroom, three ensuite singles and one large family entertainment space.

Two electricity meters are set up at the house, which is supplied by tube well water.
