Myanmar girl meets with Bollywood movie fame

By Zon Pann Pwint
Actress Sandar Win from Myanmar is forging a successful career in the Bollywood film industry following screen tests and a steep learning curve.

BOLLYWOOD fans in Myanmar may be treated to the sight of homegrown talent as Myanmar native Sandar Win continues to secure film roles in the hugely popular Indian film industry.

Sandar Win was discovered while working as a general manager at an advertising company in Dubai two years ago. Many directors and producers would use the firm to advertise their films and Sandar Win caught their attention.

“They encouraged me to try my hand at acting in Bollywood because they thought I looked gorgeous,” said Sandar Win, whose screen name is Lai La Khan.

But before she could act in her first film “Kool Nahi Hot Hai Hum” she had to undergo exhausting screen tests.

“Feeling confident from their encouragement, I flew to Bollywood with a dream of becoming a Bollywood star. When I got there I saw many attractive girls from around the world ready for their screen tests,” explained the actress.

Despite issues with the language barrier and learning Bollywood style dance, the screen tests went well.

“They liked my acting and sent me to a choreographer and after two days I was able to perform Bollywood dance,” she added.

A month later, she heard news that she had been chosen to perform in a film.
“I was incredibly happy when I heard I was chosen, I did not expect to be selected and I had never dreamt that I might be an actress,” she said on July 24 in Yangon, shortly before her departure to film another movie in Bollywood.

So far, Sandar Win has acted in three films, including “Kool Nahi Hot Hai Hum” which was released in India in November last year, “Faraar” and “Choore Pe Moore” which will be released in November and December this year respectively.

She has signed contracts to perform in another four films, which will be shot in Germany, Austria and Russia. For each film she will spend 40 days in each country.
