Art exhibition in memory of U Ko Shwe Oung Thame

An art exhibition entitled “Shwe Generation” will be held from September 15 to 19 at the Artists and Artisans Association Central, No.187/192, East Wing. Bogyoke Market, Yangon. Works of art by deceased artist U Ko Shwe Oung Thame will be on view. During his career his works were exhibited in over 300 art exhibitions and he founded Gallery Orient in 1970 and the Lokanat gallery in Yangon in 1971.

Fund-raising concert in Kandawgyi Park

Shwe Min Thar foundation is planning a fund-raising event for people with disabilities, on September 13 at Hmyaw Sin Island in Kandawgyi Park. The concert performance will feature 26 singers, inlcuding J Maung Maung, Jack Mya Thaung, Tint Tint Tun, Rebecca Win and Kaw Ni, not to mention comedy performances by Tun Tun (Examplez) and other comedians. The event will start at 6pm. Tickets are K5000 each, available on the door.

Miss People contest

The fourth Miss People contest will be held on October 4 at Sedona hotel in Mandalay and on November 1 at Inya Lake hotel in Yangon. Tickets are K5000 each, available at the offices of People Magazine in Yangon and Mandalay or at all major shopping centres in Yangon and Mandalay. Profits from ticket sales will be donated to children’s orphanages.

Super Star singing contest final

The Myanmar Super Star Search singing contest, organised by the company behind Myanmar beer, will have its final round on September 19 at Parkroyal hotel. Ten finalists will compete for a first prize of K2 million, K1 million for second and K500,000 for third. Seven consolation prizes will be offered of one lakh each.

Tickets are free from the office of Stars and Models International, Pearl Condominium, Saya San Road, Bahan township, Yangon.

Cinemas to screen comic drama

Comic drama “Zaw Ka Ka Nay Thi” (Zaw Dances) will screen from September 11 at Thwin, Thamada and Mingalar cinemas at 10am then at two hour intervals from 12:30pm.

The film stars Nay Toe, Nandar Hlaing and Nyunt Win, and was directed by Mee Pwar.

Fashion show

Myanmar fashion designers who recently participated in the Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair, held from August 13 to 16 are staging a fashion show to showcase their designs in Yangon. The event will take place on September 26 from 6pm to 8pm at Sedona hotel. For ticket information please call 244345~8.

A Nge releases album

Rock singer A Nge’s ninth album “Koe” (Nine) was released on September 9 on tape and CD. The album is distributed by Iron Cross Music Entertainment.

Heat Wave 2010 fashion event

The Heat Wave 2010 shoe collection will be on show in a catwalk event at Sedona hotel on September 24 at 3pm. Despite being a presence in the country for the past eight years, this will be the first fashion event held by Heat Wave, which creates designs for men, women and children. Guests at the event can enjoy a special sales promotion on the shoes collection.

Other designers will also showcase their work at the event, including evening gowns by Ma Myintzu (Zu Zu Collection), office wear by Ma May Aung, Ma May Thu and Ma Theingi and traditional Myanmar clothes suitable for wearing with the shoes collection by designer Ko Kaung Myat.
