Word on the Street ... Nine Nine

By Nuam Bawi

NINE Nine, who came to fame with his acting, got married two years ago to Sandy Cho who is studying in the US. This has not stopped them from deciding to have a baby though. Timeout caught up with them last week at their house in Thingankyun township to discuss how family life has changed things.

You haven’t been in many films recently, why not?

I have been travelling a lot so I’ve only acted in a few movies but I’ll start shooting again on October 1.

How important is acting to you?

Acting is my life. I started acting when I was 19. To be honest, I don’t know any other career.

How much do you think you can give your fans?

I try my best to help people but I don’t think I can do too much. Some of my movies are for the purpose of entertainment, some are to educate and some are religious. Whatever it is, if my fans are satisfied or learn something I think that can be of benefit to them.

How did your fans respond to you getting married?

I didn’t notice anything. But we artists are human so we have to marry when the time comes. I think our fans understand that. It hasn’t changed my approach to acting.

How are you enjoying family life?

I have wanted the family life for a long time. Now there is one more family member added to our family… As I like family life so much I don’t go out so much with friends and have fun.

What is the most important thing in married life?

Understanding is the most important thing. At first, it was love, but if understanding doesn’t follow after love the marriage will be lost.

How does it feel to know you’re going to be a father?

I was delighted as soon as I heard the news that I was going to be a father. I don’t know how to explain that feeling.

What are your family’s plans?

We will raise the baby here for some time and then take it abroad when possible.

Why have you decided to have the baby in Myanmar rather than America?
It’s because I want to take care of my wife closely.

What does the baby mean to you?

People say that children are like jewels. We can say that parents and children are predestined to meet so we meet in this life. We can’t choose our child and the child can’t choose their parents. It is our luck combined with our virtuous acts from our past lives so as parents we need to give our love and care to our child-ren.

Do you have any bad habits?

I have had a bad habit since my childhood. I want revenge whenever I am dissatis-fied with how someone treats me; I can control it as long as it doesn’t go beyond a certain limit. If it is over my limit, I cannot control myself so I avoid places where such problems can occur. That is my bad habit. I try to control it but I still can’t. But it is was worse when I was youn-ger.
