BAHAN is a nice township and would likely feature on many people’s list of places they’d like to live in Yangon. This apartment, on the third floor of Thakatho Yeikmon Condo on Thakatho Yeikthar Road, provides that opportunity, with a couple of caveats.
What you get is a third floor apartment in a decent location less than 20 minutes drive from downtown on a good day for what seems like a decent price at K105 million.
But 1350 square feet is not a huge amount of space and the design isn’t awe-inspiring, with little regard for natural light or airflow.
The living room fills three separate roles as a place of leisure, dining room and shrine room. The décor is reasonable with white walls, nice parquet flooring and bold ceiling and wall-mounted light fittings.
At the back there’s a claustrophobic kitchen that has one benchtop to cook and prepare food on, with storage space mounted both above and below. There is also a handily installed exhaust hood to remove unwanted cooking odours.
A door in the living room leads out onto an extensive balcony that could easily house a small potted garden and still have space left to dry clothes. Alongside the dining room is a shared bathroom.
There are also three bedrooms – one ensuite master, an ensuite double and a single, although none are particularly large.
The condo is only about four years old and remains in good condition. It comes with three air-conditioners, one telephone line and some assorted furniture and white goods, including a washing machine, table and sofa.
There is one electricity meter and the condo runs a backup generator to run the elevator and water pumps. In addition to the rubbish collection service the condo charges about K9000 a month for these services combined.
