PREPAID wireless internet cards will soon be sold in Yangon via Red Link Communications, the company’s marketing manager, U Myo Myint Nyunt said last week.

On December 1 internet users with their own laptops will be able to purchase the cards and access wireless internet at Karaweik gardens, Seinlan So Pyay gardens, Myaynigone City Mart, East Point shopping centre, North Point Ocean shopping centre and Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel sport bar.

The card will contain a login ID and password, with internet speeds maxing out a heady 64 kilobits per second (KBps).

U Myo Myint Nyunt explained the rationale behind offering prepaid wireless access in places that might otherwise be seen as outdoor leisure spots.

“We don’t envisage people browsing the net in these locations and intend for them to communicate with one another using instant messaging, emailing and browsing light information.

“The access speed is enough for this communication,” he said.

The company will release 15-hour prepaid cards for K5000 and later will release 30- and 40-hour cards.

The cards will be available computer retail shops, mobile telephone shops and the hotspot zones themselves.
