THAKETA township is an interesting place: It’s an industrial zone and feels like it. There are big blocks with factories on them, loads of stray dogs running around and the jungle seems to constantly be looking for a way to reclaim the land. Heck, there’s even a crocodile farm.

But in reality Thaketa is very close to the downtown area and offers plenty of space at a discount rate.

Take this two-storey block near the Capital hyper mart on Thitsa Lane and just off Ayawon Road: It’s about 25 minutes’ drive from downtown but has oodles of space for only K100 million, negotiable.

The design is almost symmetrical with a central front door and a room on either side. The paint is white and the windows are all covered with blue reflective film to keep the heat out. The block measures 2850 square feet, with a concreted front section capable of housing at least two large vehicles.

The house itself covers about 2500 square feet and contains three bedrooms – easily big enough for a mid-size family.

But the low price is reflected in the interior – there is only bare concrete flooring and the walls badly need repainting.

Downstairs there is an extensive – but completely bare – living room, with a smaller study attached. Alongside is a master bedroom, while there’s a kitchen, dining room and bathroom at the back of the house.

The downstairs layout is more or less duplicated upstairs, with the kitchen and dining room replaced with an extra bedroom.

This house is more than three years old and comes with a 60-year land lease. Included in the sale are one electricity meter and government mains water.
