State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said on July 28 that the government will allow the reopening of the remaining high schools one month later, after the review on the infection condition of the high schools which have been opened last week.
As part of the Covid-19 preventive measures the high schools were classified in four levels; A, B, C, and D. Only A-level schools were allowed to reopen on July 21.
“We’ll check if there’s any infection within a month in a particular school, then we will consider the reopening of remaining schools based on the actual situation on the ground,” she said.
The State Counsellor posted on her social media page that 3,999 schools – more than half of total 7,173 state high schools across the country – have successfully reopened and over 500,000 students are already back in their classes.
She said that half of state high school have yet to open because they failed to meet the disinfection requirements, such as not having enough room for washing of hands, and lack of toilets and dustbins with pedal and lid.
A total of 764 private schools which do not have boarding houses across the country have been allowed to reopen, she stated, but the boarding-schools are still closed due to the security concerns over infection. - Translated
