Nay Pyi Taw authorities activate 335 cameras able to detect faces

Myanmar’s capital of Nay Pyi Taw has activated 335 artificial intelligence-based CCTV cameras to ensure more security and safety of its citizens.

U Myint Swe, chair of project advisory committee, said the project costs more than K4 billion (US$3 billion) and the cameras were installed under the safe city project.

"Some people think that the security issue is only a concern of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police. It is true but it is just a part of whole process,” he said. “The motor vehicle police is responsible to reduce the traffic accidents and then, the municipal officials for potholes, waste and flood. We can see all the things in this issue. The Fire Brigade also conducts fire protection activities."

The CCTV control center was opened in Nay Pyi Taw on December 14 and it is currently controlled by the Police Force and the other agencies will be joining later.

"For using this system, it can save a lot of police resources,” U Myint Swe said. “The technical aid is swift and precise. Then, there will be no corruption anymore. It is our main aim."

The face detection system can uncover the suspects and automatically identity the ones with their face information.

"If we upload the image of a person who we want to search for, it will give alert. It can trace the person who commits a crime in a certain place," U Myint Swe added.

The city safe system will be also installed in Mandalay soon. The installation of 335 face-detect CCTVs camera in Nay Pyi Taw Council area was carried for over a year by two Nay Pyi Taw based companies. - Translated
